UPDATED | Snow and freezing temperatures to return by afternoon
Light snow, sometimes mixed with rain, was forecast to continue through Tuesday afternoon in Central Kentucky, and larger snow totals were expected in other regions.
In Central Kentucky early Tuesday, the snow covered many roads, making them slick and hazardous, the National Weather Service said. Two to 3 inches of snow were reported Tuesday morning in Lexington.
From midnight to 8 a.m. Tuesday, Lexington police had responded to 27 traffic accidents. Lt. Doug Pape said none of them caused injuries.
In Lexington, snow changed to rain Tuesday morning as temperatures rose just above freezing. Meteorologist Joe Ammerman with the National Weather Service in Louisville said temperatures in Central Kentucky were expected to drop below freezing about 1 or 2 p.m. Tuesday, and that less than an inch of additional snow could fall.
Williams said the low temperature Tuesday night could be as low as 19 degrees, with 20 mph winds that could make it feel like 5 or 6 degrees.
