Former aide at Richmond nursing home pleads guilty

Amanda Sallee, a former nurse’s aide at Madison Manor nursing home in Richmond, pleaded guilty Thursday to wanton abuse and neglect of an adult, a statement from Attorney General Jack Conway’s office said.

The charges stem from conduct caught on a hidden video camera placed in the room of Armeda Thomas, 84, in August 2008. Thomas’ relatives put the camera in her room after they became concerned about her treatment at the facility.

Under terms of a plea agreement, Sallee will serve one year in the Kentucky Department of Corrections. That sentence will be diverted for five years on the condition that Sallee remains on good behavior, doesn’t work with vulnerable adults or in the Medicare industry, and cooperates in pending cases against other former Madison Manor employees.

Sallee is the third nurse’s aide to plead guilty in connection with abuse and neglect at the nursing home.

Jaclyn VanWinkle and Valerie Lamb pleaded guilty in April and January, respectively; each was sentenced to 12 months in the Madison County jail for reckless abuse and neglect of an adult.
