Airport to ramp up parking fees, services
All of the particulars haven’t been worked out, but parking rates at Lexington’s Blue Grass Airport are set to go up July 1, and a new vehicle detailing program for those using airport valet parking is in the works.
The airport board agreed Wednesday to increase the daily rates for valet, short-term and long-term parking by $1 each. The increase means that, come July 1, daily valet parking will cost $13, short-term parking will cost $14 and long-term parking will cost $11. The daily rate for economy parking will remain the same $8. The airport’s free cell phone waiting lot is to remain free.
Hourly parking rates have not been determined. For the time being, free 30-minute parking will continue to be available at the airport.
Airport officials will be working with Republic Parking Systems, which handles airport parking, to determine what services will be included in the valet parking vehicle detailing program and their costs. Car washes and oil changes might be offered, according to airport officials.
Airport board treasurer Richard Hopgood noted parking revenue makes up 40 percent of the airport’s budget, and income from parking is down more than income from other sources of revenue.
